NE Ga police blotter: body found in Oconee River, driver killed in east side car crash

There is an ongoing effort to identify the body of a man found in the North Oconee River in Athens. The body discovered by a fisherman in the river on Athens’ east side has been taken to the GBI Crime Lab in Decatur.

A 67 year-old Athens man was killed in a two-vehicle collision on Lexington Road. The wreck that claimed the life of Jesse Garner Jr happened just before 9:30 last night. Athens-Clarke County Police say five people were in the second vehicle in the accident. They were taken to Athens hospitals for treatment of what were described as non life-threatening injuries.

Athens-Clarke County Police say a second suspect is charged in a deadly shooting on Northview Drive in Athens. Police last week reported the arrest of 19 year-old Anthony Brown. Now 20 year-old Glendarius Tate is facing a murder charge. The shooting happened on March 5. Victim Ja’Vanni McDavid was 24 years old.

The family of Nathan Millard is asking Louisiana State Police to take over the investigation into the death of the Walton County businessman, whose body was found March 6, wrapped in plastic near downtown Baton Rouge. His wife had reported him missing on February 23, after she last spoke with him while he was on business in Louisiana. Police in Baton Rouge have said foul play is not suspected in his death. Millard’s family thinks otherwise.

There are child porn charges for a man arrested in Gainesville: 75 year-old Alan Thur was, at last report, being held without bond in the Hall County jail.

The Hall County Sheriff’s Office says a man arrested in Kansas is charged in the alleged sexual assaults of a girl in Gainesville. 45 year-old Felix Barragan faces counts that include rape and child molestation, with allegations involving a girl under the age of 10, incidents that are said to date back to 2020.

A suspect is arrested after a reported road rage shooting in Hall County. Gainesville Police say two people were wounded in the gunfire that happened on Highway 365. Injuries were described as non life-threatening. The shooting suspect is identified as Steven Cooper. He’s 26 years old, from Lula.

Drug agents in Lumpkin County say they have arrested two men on methamphetamine trafficking charges. The Sheriff’s Office in Dahlonega says James and Ricky Gee are also facing marijuana possession charges. They were booked into the Lumpkin County jail.
