NE Ga police blotter includes new details on elder abuse arrest in Jefferson

A man from Athens is arrested on drug charges in Elberton: Elberton Police say 28 year-old Marquis Fleming was caught with marijuana and methamphetamine. He was arrested after a traffic stop and booked into the Elbert County jail.

There is more information from the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office on this week’s arrest of Chad Miller: the 22 year-old Jefferson man is facing aggravated assault and elder abuse charges after allegedly attacking an elderly man in what was initially speculated to have been some sort of social media challenge. Investigators in the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office say that does not appear to have been the case; they’re still working to establish a motive. Miller, at last report, was still in the Jackson County jail.

A Hall County doctor gets six months house arrest and probation, his punishment for his conviction on Medicaid fraud charges: 69 year-old Guy Jordan of Gainesville was indicted in September of last year.

Twice delayed after last week’s campus shooting: Union County Schools finally had their first day of classes Tuesday. A school maintenance worker was arrested last Thursday in Blairsville after allegedly firing a gunshot into an empty car in the parking lot of the Union County Primary School. No one was injured.
