Scam calls made to power customers

There are forgery charges for a man arrested in Elbert County. Police in Elberton say Larenzo Brown was released from the Elbert County Detention Center after posting a $23,000 bond.

Drug agents say they’ve arrested a drug suspect in Stephens County, catching Shaun Mayfield with they say was methamphetamine and marijuana; also heroin and ecstasy. The 26 year-old man from Toccoa was apprehended after six-month undercover operation.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating in Cornelia, where a Habersham County school bus driver has been arrested on a DUI charge: Gary Allen was behind the wheel of the bus that collided with a car in Cornelia. There were children on the bus; none of them were injured.

Habersham EMC is warning about scam calls, in which rate payers are told their electricity will be disconnected unless they make payments over the phone. The utility in Clarkesville says such calls should be reported to law enforcement.

Two men from Newton County are among the seven people behind bars, arrested by the GBI on child porn charges. William Anderson is 55 years old, from Porterdale; David Hawkins is 57, from Social Circle.
