New principal for local elementary school

With the start of the second week of the school year in the Clarke County School District comes word of a new principal for Alps Road Elementary School: the hiring of Audra Olukoya has been approved by the Clarke County School Board. Olukoya worked most recently as an assistant principal in DeKalb County.

At the regular board meeting on August 8, 2019, the Clarke County Board of Education approved the hiring of Audra Olukoya as principal of Alps Road Elementary School. This position was filled through a collaboration between district staff and the school hiring committee comprised of the LSGT, community members, and school staff.

"Ms. Olukoya has a proven track record in improving student achievement," said Demond Means, Superintendent of Clarke County Schools. "Her focus on teacher training and retention will no doubt serve her staff well. I look forward to seeing the great work she will undertake at Alps Road Elementary School."

Ms. Olukoya has twelve years' experience as an educator, six of which she spent serving as an educational leader in Title I schools. She was most recently an Assistant Principal in DeKalb County were she improved math scores and student attendance while reducing student discipline rates. Ms. Olukoya earned an Educational Specialist degree in curriculum and instruction and a Masters Degree in reading and literacy from Capella University. She is currently working toward her Doctorate from Walden University.
