Oconee Co awards its Top First Responder

Oconee County honors its Medical First Responder of the Year: the award goes to Dennis Luckey, an EMT for Oconee County's Station 1 in Watkinsville.

Dennis Luckey, an Emergency Medical Technician who serves as the Medical Officer for Station 1 in Watkinsville, was recognized as the Medical First Responder of the Year for Oconee County during the 28thAnnual Northeast Georgia EMS Awards Banquet.

Luckey, who has volunteered with Oconee County Fire Rescue since 2015, has responded to hundreds of medical calls during all hours of the day and night. He has also volunteered to work numerous special events within the county.

Luckey has successfully completed training in Hazardous Materials Awareness, Medical Preparedness in Response to Bombing Incidents, and Emergency Medical Technician. He also assists with the training programs and serves as a mentor for new Medical Responders.

Bruce Thaxton, Fire Chief with Oconee County Fire Rescue, said that Dennis is always willing to serve whenever he is needed within his community.

“Dennis is well-respected by his peers and exhibits excellent clinical skills whenever he is on the scene, caring for patients and their families,” Thaxton said. “His dedication to helping our citizens and making a difference in Oconee County is very inspiring to us all.”

The Medical First Responder of the Year Award was presented during the annual EMS Awards banquet held at the Oconee Civic Center in Watkinsville on April 24. Approximately 250 Emergency Medical Services personnel and their families attended the banquet, which honors all EMS and Medical First Responders in the 10-county service area and recognizes them for their achievements
