Plane crash victim identified

A businessman from Toccoa is now identified as the victim of this week’s plane crash in middle Georgia: the small plane went down in Jasper County. The plane was heading to Grady County at the time of the crash. Pilot Ashley Dekle was 72 years old, originally from Cairo. The FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board are investigating.

A spokesman for the NTSB said several witnesses reported seeing the plane flying low, just above the tree tops, before it "sharply descended" into the trees, cutting short the plane's roughly 300-mile journey.

"The airplane struck the tops of the trees, traveled for approximately 150 feet before finally coming to rest, and burned in the process," the spokesman said.
