Police blotter: deadly crash, escapee arrested, murder suspect in jail

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating a deadly holiday weekend car crash in Franklin County: the driver was killed in a single-vehicle accident on I-85 near Lavonia.

An inmate who escaped from the Stephens County jail was arrested over the King Holiday weekend: the Stephens County Sheriff's Office says 24 year-old Calvin McCoy was found hiding in a home in Toccoa. McCoy jumped a fence and ran from the jail last Wednesday.

A woman from Mt. Airy is charged in the murder of a Toccoa man who was killed in Habersham County: 31 year-old Kayla Parker is accused in the deadly stabbing of 37 year-old Joshua Canady. Parker is in the Habersham County jail.

The GBI arrests two suspects in connection with an officer-involved shooting at Lenox Square Mall over the weekend. Police say the suspects were wanted in an armed robbery when an officer confronted them in a parking lot in Lenox Square. The officer fired when one of the suspects refused to drop a gun.
