NE Ga police blotter: meth suspects caught, arson suspect sought

The Lumpkin County Sheriff’s Office makes methamphetamine arrests in Dahlonega: three suspects—two men and one woman—are alleged to have been involved in a meth distribution ring, selling at least a quarter million dollars worth of the drug. The suspects are Justin and Candace Newell and Kenneth Hertz.

Investigators now say the fire that burned a portion of the Appalachian Trail in White County was intentionally set. Upwards of a half-dozen acres were burned in the fire that blazed last weekend. Officials in White County say there is, so far, no word on who set the fire or why. The US Forest Service is investigating.
