Police release body cam video from Old Hull Rd shooting

Athens-Clarke County Police Chief Cleveland Spruill says the GBI investigation into last month's deadly officer-involved shooting on Old Hull Road is ongoing, but the Chief—in releasing the officer's body cam video of the incident—says the shooting appears to have been justified. The officer shot and killed 63 year-old Carlton Brooks after Brooks pointed a shotgun at the officer, who had gone to Old Hull Road after receiving a report about a peeping tom.

From the ACCPD…

ACCPD Police Chief Cleveland Spruill’s statement regarding the April 20th Officer Involved Shooting: “While the GBI must still complete its investigation, it appears to me after reviewing the officer body cam footage that the suspect, Carlton Brooks, raised a shotgun towards our officer, Ethan Marsden. Officer Marsden, fearing for his life and the safety of his partner, fired his weapon, striking Mr. Brooks in the torso.” Officer Marsden is still on administrative leave with pay pending the results of the GBI’s investigation.
