GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Police say they have arrested a man who shot at police early Monday morning, causing a busy Gwinnett County road to be closed.
Highway 78 was closed in both direction near Summit Chase Drive for hours as authorities investigated.
According to Channel 2′s Steve Gehlbach, Snellville officers were investigating a suspicious vehicle around 3 a.m. and at some point, a man fired at an officer and the officer fired back.
The officer was not hurt but authorities launched a massive search operation after the suspect ran into a nearby wooded area.
Just before 8 a.m., the suspect was taken into custody without injury.
The GBI said it has responded to the scene.
Triple Team Traffic’s Mark Arum said that drivers in the area can use State Road 20 to Grayson Parkway as an alternate route.
