The southeast drought is showing its first improvement in several weeks, a combination of tropical storm Nestor and another front which rolled across Georgia. UGA climatologist Pam Knox says some areas got several inches of rain and as result their drought situation improved by two categories-which is rare. She says the southern part of the state showed particular improvement and that overall there's less extreme drought (the second worst category) and more areas not listed as being in drought, just abnormally dry. She says another storm system coming thru Friday and Saturday could make a substantial difference as well, dropping several inches of rain in some spots.
