Regents sign off on football field plan

The state Board of Regents makes it official, approving a plan name the football field at Sanford Stadium in honor of former Georgia Bulldog coach and University of Georgia athletic director Vince Dooley. The renaming ceremony is set for September 7, the day of the Dogs home opener against Murray State.

The board approved the proposal without opposition. University System of Georgia Chancellor Steve Wrigley and some board members praised the idea when it was announced two weeks ago.

The university's athletic association's board of directors unanimously approved the proposal earlier this month.
