Rough weather for Athens is not from tropical storm

There is the threat of thunderstorms for Athens and northeast Georgia today, but forecasters say the potentially rough weather that is anticipated for this afternoon is not associated with Tropical Storm Arthur, which is now brewing in the Atlantic, two weeks before the official start of the Atlantic hurricane season.

From WSB TV…

It’s been wet overnight and more rain is expected throughout the day on Monday.

Severe Weather Team 2 Meteorologist Brian Monahan is tracking downpours as they move across north Georgia.

Some of the downpours this morning could have some lightning. More rain and storms are possible later Monday.

Here’s what to know:

  • There is a Level 1 of 5 risk for severe storms Monday for metro Atlanta.
  • High temperatures will reach into the high 70s Monday
  • The rain is not isolated with Tropical Storm Arthur
