Sewage trouble closes Athens homeless shelter

It is bad news as the weather turns cold: Athens’ Bigger Vision Homeless Shelter is closed, likely for a month. Sewage issues, similar to those of last year, have again hit the facility on North Avenue in Athens.

From the Bigger Vision website…

Bigger Vision of Athens is a 365-day shelter for those in homelessness in Athens, Georgia. Bigger Vision provides guests with a safe and comfortable place to stay for up to 13 hours, dinner, showers or laundry on an alternating schedule, hygiene items they may need, and breakfast in the morning.

The Emergency Shelter Program provides a temporary place for those in homelessness to shelter themselves from the elements. The Abundant Life Program provides a sustainable place while they obtain the education and certifications necessary to permanently end homelessness for them and their families. Graduates of Abundant Life transition from homelessness into their own sustainable housing opportunity, skipping over poverty in the process.
