Sheriff speaks to protestors at rally

Oglethorpe County Sheriff David Gabriel’s decision to hire fired Athens-Clarke County Police Officer Taylor Saulters was the focus of a protest last night in Crawford: about three dozen demonstrators were met by a larger gathering of Oglethorpe County residents who support the Sheriff’s decision. Saulters was fired in Athens after an incident two weeks ago: his patrol car hit a suspect who was trying to run away from pursuing police officers.

Sheriff David Gabriel addressed the protestors and defended his decision to hire Saulters.  Audio of his remarks can be heard here...
