Small quake near Lake Hartwell

The US Geological Survey confirms a very small earthquake near Lake Hartwell, a tremor that registered 2.3 on the Richter Scale. The Hart County Sheriff's Office says it received no calls about the quake; there has no damage reported.

From the Georgia News Network…

It was a 2.3 magnitude quake according to the USGS. No damage was reported. It happened just before 11pm about 3 miles west of the community of Reed Creek in Hart County . Small quakes happen from time to time in that area, but there hasn't been a big one there in just over 100 years. A 5.1 quake hit the area in 1916. The lake Hartwell dam is not a long way from where the quake happened. Officials with the Army Corps of Engineers say they are required to inspect the dam when a quake 4.5 or larger strikes, but one this small doesn't require an inspection.
