Smith’s official inauguration tonight in Watkinsville

The Watkinsville City Council meets tonight, with a second swearing in ceremony for Mayor-elect Bob Smith on the agenda: the former Oconee County state Rep, who won the mayor’s office with a two-vote margin this past November, was inaugurated—unofficially, as it turns out—on New Year’s Day. Tonight’s Council meeting is set for 7 o’clock at City Hall in Watkinsville. Smith replaces outgoing Mayor Dave Shearon.

There is an afternoon meeting of the Athens-Clarke County Hearings Board: it’s underway at 2:30 at the Government Building on Dougherty Street.

This evening’s meeting of the Madison County Planning and Zoning Board is set to start at 6:30 in Danielsville.

There is no longer a City Administrator in Statham: the position has been eliminated by the City Council in Statham.
