Superintendent will speak at MLK gathering

Organizers of the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Awards Banquet say they have lined up a speaker for this year's event. Clarke County School Superintendent Demond Means will speak at the January 19 ceremonies at the Classic Center.

Clarke County School District Superintendent Dr. Demond Means will be the keynote speaker for the 40th Annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Awards Banquet to be held Saturday, January 19, 2019 at The Classic Center at 7:00 pm. This is event is sponsored by the Athens Area Human Relations Council, Inc. The non-profit organization was founded by the late Rev. David H. Nunnally, Sr. It shares scholarships with area high school students ranging from $500 to $2,500 each. Additionally, the Annual Ecumenical Observance will be held at the Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church on Sunday, January 20th at 5:00 pm. Rev. Ronnie Gannt and Rev. Stacy Pardue will be keynote speakers, while the 8th District Mass Choir will provide the music.
