Suspects arrested after standoff at bank

Police said a man was pistol-whipped, kidnapped and forced to rob a bank near Covington on Wednesday afternoon.

The alleged assault was at a Wells Fargo location at 11160 Ga. 142 North, Covington police spokesman Allan Seebaran told Channel 2 Action News.

The victim was able to alert bank employees, who were able to call police, Covington police Capt. Ken Malcom said in a Facebook post.

Police arrived to find the alleged victim and a suspect inside the bank, according to the post. Authorities also arrested two suspects outside the bank. The victim sustained minor injures.

“Thanks to the quick thinking of the victim, bank teller, and quick response by (Covington police) units, the three individuals involved were arrested,” Malcom said.

Channel 2 reported the alleged victim knew one of the suspects taken into custody.

The case has been turned over to the Newton County Sheriff’s Office since the bank is located outside Covington’s city limits.
