SWAT team arrests Hall Co murder suspect

The Hall County Sheriff's Office reports the arrest of a suspect in a weekend homicide: 23 year-old James Blocksom is from Canton. He's charged in the death of Chester Morrison. The 36 year-old from Commerce was shot and killed outside a convenience store on Gainesville Highway in south Hall. Blocksom was arrested at his home in Cherokee County.

On February 10, 2019, Investigators with the Hall County Sheriff’s Office and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office SWAT team arrested James Elliot Blocksom, 23, of Canton Georgia, at his home located at 319 Garden Circle, in Cherokee County, during the course of a murder investigation.

Blocksom was charged with murder following the shooting death of Chester Morrison, 36, of Commerce, Ga. at the

Quick Trip on 927 Gainesville Highway in South Hall early Sunday morning.

Mr. Morrison was shot multiple times by Blocksom who stood outside the passenger side of the car.

The car had been was driven by a 23 year old female who was known by both the victim and the suspect. The female was not physically injured during this incident.

The investigation determined that just prior to the shooting, Blocksom had chased the vehicle which Mr. Morrison was a passenger in northbound from the Buford area until they pulled into the quick trip.

Immediately following the shooting a video circulated on social media via Instagram/snapchat.

The video was taken by a witness who had seen the suspect chasing the victims north bound from the Buford area just prior to the shooting.

The female was cooperative with Deputies and Investigators and was able to assist very quickly with details regarding Blocksom’s identity, place of residency and vehicle description.

Following his arrest for murder, Investigators executed a search warrant at Blocksom’s residence where they have recovered a handgun they believe to have been used in the shooting.

Blocksom was transported back to Hall County and booked in at the Hall County Jail.

No bond has been set at this time.

This case remains under investigation by the Hall County Sheriff’s Office
