Today: last day to apply to fill DA’s term

Today is a deadline day in Clarke and Oconee counties: Governor Brian Kemp says this is the last day to apply to fill the unexpired term of Western Judicial Circuit District Attorney Ken Mauldin. Mauldin, who announced last year he would not run for reelection this year, now says he is retiring at the end of the month.

Deputy District Attorney Brian Patterson and former Athens state Rep Deborah Gonzalez had planned to run in the May primary that is now off the election calendar. If the Governor doesn’t make an appointment by May 3, this November’s DA election won’t be held until 2022.
