UGA new faculty tour winds down, fall classes start next week

The University of Georgia’s annual new faculty tour wrapped up Thursday: the University’s newest professors and instructors have spent the week on a swing around the state. This week’s stops included the UGA campus in Tifton, the University facilities on Skidaway Island, and the Georgia Ports Authority in Savannah.

Those new faculty members are getting ready for next week’s start of a new fall semester at UGA, as is the rest of the University community. Sorority rush begins this weekend, and students will spend the weekend moving into dorms and residence hall in advance of the fall classes that will begin next Wednesday.

From the UGA website…

About 30 new University of Georgia faculty members will get a whirlwind tour of the state Aug. 8-11, visiting 13 cities and passing through 40 counties across Georgia as part of the 2022 New Faculty Tour (NFT).

On Monday, Aug. 8, the group will meet at the University of Georgia Center for Continuing Education & Hotel for orientation before beginning their bus tour across the state.

Major 2022 NFT highlights will include stops at the agricultural research facilities on the UGA Tifton Campus, UGA Marine Extension and Georgia Sea Grant on Skidaway Island, and the Georgia Ports Authority in Savannah.

“Each year we host the New Faculty Tour, we help expand the capacity for our faculty to reach out and engage with the state through their research and service,” said Jennifer Frum, UGA vice president for public service and outreach. “When they get back to campus, they are able to build on their experiences and put their expertise to use helping Georgia communities grow and prosper.”

The New Faculty Tour is coordinated by the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach and is made possible by major support from the Office of the President, the Office of the Provost, and the Office of the Vice President for Public Service and Outreach. Additional sponsors include the UGA Alumni Association, UGA Foundation, and a multitude of other units and supporters of the University of Georgia.
