UGA poll: most complying with hands-free law

A new poll claims that a lot of Georgians are complying with the hands-free driving law that took effect last summer.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution says a survey of more than 700 Georgians was conducted by the University of Georgia school of Public and International Affairs. It revealed that 45 percent of respondents said they obey the law all of the time. But it also showed an additional 40 percent said they obey it in most cases. The law's sponsor says he's pleased overall and that better compliance will result from stepped-up enforcement and cultural change. Lawmakers sought the change after Georgia traffic fatalities rose by one-third between 2014 and 2016.
