Students from the University of Georgia’s student government are in Washington, D.C. as part of the annual spring trip with student government members from other SEC schools to advocate for a number of student platforms. The four students who attended this week are Roya Naghepour, student government Vice President for UGA, Jesse Kerzner, a Director of Community Relations, Kelly Donoghue, a Student Life Senator and Amaan Charaniya, the Executive Director of Student Engagement. Naghepour says that the students are based out of the university’s Delta Hall this week and that they have met with Representatives Jody Hice, Doug Collins, Drew Ferguson, David Perdue and Johnny Isakson.
The University of Georgia student representatives are advocating for:
1) Open educational resources, namely cheaper or free textbooks
2) Promoting mental wellness both locally and nationally
3) Making college more affordable through subsidized loans
Congressman Jody Hice Tweeted:
Such a wonderful visit with @ugasga representatives this afternoon. I appreciate that they braved the snow to come discuss and advocate for college affordability and mental health initiatives. #GoDawgs pic.twitter.com/OCur4AKhBS
