UGA will offer in-person summer orientation

There University of Georgia says its students will have the option of in-person orientation this summer, with sessions scheduled to start in June. Orientation last year was, because of concerns about coronavirus, entirely virtual.

115 athletes at the University of Georgia received their coronavirus vaccinations Tuesday at UGA’s Butts-Mehre Heritage Hall: the shots were administered by a vaccine team from Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.

Another mass coronavirus vaccination event is scheduled for this coming weekend in Hart County: it will take place Saturday at the Flat Shoals Baptist Church on Highway 51 in Hartwell.

Savannah is reporting an uptick in COVID hospitalizations. Mayor Van Johnson says two weeks ago, the numbers were decreasing daily. But they’ve jumped 10 percent since then. More than 20 percent of Chatham County residents are fully vaccinated.

A research firm in Chatham County is looking for volunteers to take part in a COVID vaccine trial. Meridian Clinical Research is in Savannah, helping test another two-dose vaccine.
