Voter registration deadline looms in Athens

There is a timely reminder from the Athens-Clarke County Board of Elections: you have another two weeks to register to vote in next month’s presidential preference primaries. The voter registration deadline is February 24; primary voting in Athens and around the state is March 24.

Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger says the new voting machines, with their touch screens and paper backups, will be in place in all 159 Georgia counties by the end of the week. Most of us will use the new machines for the first time beginning on March 2: that's when early voting begins in advance of the state's presidential preference primaries. The machines are already in use in a handful of special elections in south Georgia.
