Weather watching: Zeta moves into the region

Storm made a Louisiana landfall as a category two hurricane

Athens is expected to get a glancing blow from Tropical Storm Zeta, which moved across Alabama and into Georgia during the overnight hours. Forecasters say Athens and surrounding counties could see wind gusts of up to 45 miles per hour, with heavy rain anticipated through the morning hours and into this afternoon.

From WSB TV…

A Tropical Storm Warning has been issued for north Georgia as Hurricane Zeta races for the state. Final preparations are underway from local emergency managements and power companies.

The storm made landfall in Louisiana stronger than expected, which means potential impacts for Georgia could also be stronger.

Tropical storm-force winds are expected to move into Georgia overnight. Winds of 45-65 mph with isolated gusts of up to 70 mph are possible, according to Severe Weather Team 2.

There is also the risk of flooding and possible weak tornadoes.
