Woman killed, suspect sought in hit-and-run on Commerce Road

Athens-Clarke County Police have released the name of the woman killed in a vehicle vs pedestrian accident: Kimberly Pierce was 52 years old. Police say she was walking on Commerce Road north of the Highway 10 Loop when she was struck by a car. Police say the driver of the car left the scene. Investigators are looking for a  1990s model green Honda with tinted windows, a vehicle that will likely have front-end damage.

On 03/20/2018 at approximately 10:00 pm, officers were dispatched to the area of Commerce Road near the Ga 10 Loop in reference to a person struck by a vehicle. Upon their arrival on scene they located, a white female who was later identified as 52-year-old Kimberly Pierce unresponsive in the roadway. EMS personnel pronounced Kimberly dead on scene. The vehicle which struck Kimberly, left the scene and was described by witnesses as a 90’s model green Honda with tinted windows. The vehicle is believed to have sustained front-end damage from the collision.  The investigation found that Kimberly was crossing Commerce Road from the Bulldog Inn and was struck while she was in the roadway. Investigators believe that there may be other witnesses to this incident and ask anyone who may have information to contact Sgt. Butt at 706-208-1718 ext 226. We are working to obtain possible video surveillance from nearby business that may provide us with further information.
