Wreath laying ceremony today in Athens

Five Athens-Clarke County law enforcement officers who died in the line of duty—Herman Stein, Donald Moon, Thomas Bowles, James Clark, and Buddy Christian—will be remembered in a wreath-laying ceremony set for 11 o’clock this morning in front of Athens City Hall.

Athens-Clarke County Police say they have found a medical transport van reported stolen from Barrow County almost a month ago. The $30,000 van was found in a parking lot on Atlanta Highway. There’s no word yet on who stole it.

Two men arrested in a massive methamphetamine operation in Jackson County have been handed over to the US Homeland Security Department: the Jackson County Sheriff's Office says 27 year-old Gerardo Luviano of Commerce and 21 year-old Jose Borrego of Statham were arrested after receiving a Fed Ex shipment that contained 33 kilos of meth. The drugs were shipped to a home in Commerce.

There are fraud charges for a Hall County woman accused of running a telephone scam: 50 year-old Linda Morgan is accused of claiming to raise money for a church in east Hall, evidently doing so without anyone at the church knowing about it.
