Amazon had said the promotion, which gave a driver who received a digital “thank you” a $5 tip, would end once the first 1 million thank yous are reached. In the emailed statement, Amazon said, “We’re glad to see customers interested in thanking their drivers and encourage them to continue doing so. Drivers will continue to be notified of the gratitude received.”

Original Story:

Customers can say “Alexa, thank my driver,” and the driver who made their most recent order delivery will receive a “thank you,” Amazon said Wednesday. The company said that the first million drivers who receive thanks will also receive $5 with each message of gratitude.

The program starts Dec. 7, and the $5 given to the driver comes at no cost to the customer, Amazon said. The five drivers who get the most customer “thank you”s during the promotion period will also be given $10,000 and $10,000 to be donated to a charity of their choice. The program is available to customers in the United States with an Alexa-enabled device or the Alexa or Amazon Shopping mobile apps.

Announcing the program, Amazon said that its drivers form relationships with customers, provide support to their communities “and sometimes play the role of unexpected hero.”
