Pennsylvania fire chief facing charges for allegedly assaulting another firefighter during response

ALLEGHENY COUNTY, Pa. — A fire chief in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, is facing charges for allegedly assaulting another firefighter Sunday during a response.

Stowe Township Fire Chief Matthew Chapman was one of the first firefighters to arrive on scene of a fire that destroyed a building in McKee Rocks, Pennsylvania on Sunday, according to a criminal complaint obtained by WPXI.

According to court records obtained by WPXI, police officers who responded to the scene reportedly overheard an argument between Chapman and a Preston Fire Department firefighter. The officers claim they heard Chapman yelling profanity at the other firefighter.

The other firefighter began to talk away when police officers said Chapman allegedly charged after the firefighter, according to court records obtained by WPXI. A physical fight took place and police officers reportedly had to separate the two men.

Police said that the other firefighter was punched in the left side of his face, according to court records obtained by WPXI. The police took a written statement from the other firefighter.

Chapman has been charged with simple assault and harassment, according to WPXI.

No information has been released about what the argument was regarding or what led up to it. The investigation is ongoing.
