BREAUX BRIDGE, La. — Basketball Hall of Famer Shaquille O’Neal is now a reserve deputy in Louisiana.
O’Neal, 48, a sports analyst who played college basketball at LSU before starring for 19 years in the NBA, stopped at the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday, KLFY reported.
The department announced O’Neal as a new team member on Facebook later on Wednesday.
“Thank you for your kindness, support, and encouragement you provided to the deputies. It was very much appreciated,” the department said in its post. “Welcome to the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office Team."
O’Neal has also served as a reserve police officer for Doral, Miami Beach and Golden Beach in Florida; in Tempe, Arizona; and the Port of Los Angeles, according to the Miami Herald.
