Kirby Smart won’t ascertain any hypotheticals when it comes to his quarterback situation. He will continue to praise Stetson Bennett for the job he’s done while stating his clear desire for JT Daniels to return to health.
“We are trying to get JT back,” Smart said on Monday. “He is much improved this last week, at the end of the week. He had a really productive throwing session Thursday. For the game, he was able to throw more than the previous week. We are going to let him try and throw more today.”
Daniels missed the last two games with a lat injury. He didn’t play against UAB due to an oblique injury, which he reaggravated in the season-opener against Clemson.
The injuries come a year after Daniels was unavailable for six games while recovering from knee surgery. There’s no doubt he’s a more talented thrower of the football compared to Bennett. We just haven’t gotten to see much of that in 2021, especially considering he only played one quarter against Vanderbilt and was clearly comprised in the win over Clemson.
