ATHENS Georgia freshman receiver Dominick Blaylock was ready when it became "Next Man Up" time at Sanford Stadium on Saturday.
Blaylock, in his second game action of the season, had a team-high 112 yards receiving and a touchdown on four catches, stepping into the slot when senior Tyler Simmons suffered a shoulder injury.
The No. 3-ranked Bulldogs scored a 55-0 win over Arkansas State on Saturday at Sanford Stadium. Blaylock recorded the first 100-yard game for UGA since Mecole Hardman had 6 receptions for 103 yards against South Carolina.
Simmons, a senior captain, was slammed down out of bounds after making a 12-yard catch t the Red Wolves 28-yard line on Saturday.
Quarterback Jake Fromm said he had been impressed with Blaylock all week in practice, and Blaylock seized the moment.
"Dom did a great job all week in practice," Fromm said. "This guy is coming out making plays, he's really taking his job seriously, and he's not having a whole lot of mental errors, you don't have to worry about him at all.
"He's just a guy who's going to do what he's told and do it really good, and he came out and he got rewarded for it today, and it's awesome for him."
Blaylock made the trip to Nashville for the season-opening game against Vanderbilt, but he didn't get the opportunity to play.
Fromm said it shows how Blaylock kept his focus the following two weeks of preparation.
"It's just a testament to what guys do in practice and the work they put in," Fromm said.
"When you get your opportunity to go out on the field, you really take advantage of it, and you could see that he did that, and he has been doing that, and now he's out there making plays."
