City Hall closes in observance of Earth Day

Athens-Clarke County government offices are closed for today’s Earth Day observances. That means changes to operations at the Athens Transit Service and garbage collections in Athens. While the Athens-Clarke County Leisure Services Department is closed for the day, County parks and trails are open for regular hours of operation.

Animal Services

• Adoption Center
• Mon., Apr. 22 - Closed
• Tue., Apr. 23 - Resume regular hours of operation
• Field Services
• Sat., Apr. 20 - Mon., Apr. 22 - Emergency on-call only
• Emergency on-call services - such as an animal bite, a seriously sick or injured animal, or an animal trapped inside a living space of a home - will be provided throughout the holiday by calling 911.
• Tue., Apr. 23 - Resume regular field services.

Elections

Due to the voter registration deadline of April 22, 2024 for voting in the May 21, 2024 General Primary & Local Nonpartisan Election, the Elections Department will be open on Monday, April 22 from 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM to accept voter registration applications.

Leisure Services

Solid Waste

• Residential and commercial (outside the Downtown district) garbage and recycling collected by the Athens-Clarke County Solid Waste Department will not be collected on Mon., Apr. 22. Garbage and recycling will be collected on the following schedule:
• Regular Monday collections will be collected on Tues., Apr 23.
• Regular Tuesday collections will be collected on Wed., Apr. 24.
• Regular Wednesday collections will be collected on Thurs., Apr. 25
• Regular Thursday and Friday collections will be collected on Fri., Apr. 26
• Residential and commercial (inside the Downtown district) garbage and recycling service will be collected as regularly scheduled.
• Leaf & Limb will be collected Tue., Apr. 23 - Fri., Apr. 26 finishing collection in Area B and starting collection in Area C.
• The Landfill will be closed on Mon., Apr. 22, resuming regular hours on Tue, Apr. 23.
• The CHaRM is closed on Mondays. It will be open under regular operating hours the rest of the week.
• Solid Waste offices will be closed on Mon., Apr. 22, resuming regular hours on Tue., Apr. 23.
• The Materials Recycling Facility will be open under regular operating hours on Mon., Apr. 22.
