Family desperate to find rapper missing nearly a month after he doesn’t show up for gig

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — On Tuesday April 23 Jonathan Russell, known as Jae Russ, was found safe.

Original Story:

Family members are desperate to find a missing rapper who was last seen almost a month ago.

Jonathan Russell, who goes by Jae Russ, vanished in Gwinnett County on March 28.

Family members said that Russell, 34 moved to metro Atlanta two years ago from Maryland to pursue hip hop more seriously.

He was supposed to be a part of a South by Southwest festival showcase last month in Austin, Texas, but didn’t show up for the gig.

“He never misses a showcase,” his sister, Sherrie Russell-Bryant, said. “My brother is always performing. This is out of his character. Completely out of his character.”

Police searched Russell’s last known address on Brays Mill Trace in unincorporated Lawrenceville, but had no luck. His family said his car showed up on a Flock camera last week, but police couldn’t verify who was driving.

Russell was last seen wearing jeans and a jacket with white sleeves with the word “fellowship” in royal blue and white letters. He’s described as 185 pounds and 6′1″.

“The windows were tinted, so they don’t even know if he was even in the car,” Russell-Bryant said.

Russell’s family said friends are helping find him while they pray he’s not in any danger.

“I’ve already lost one brother to gun violence,” Russell-Bryant said. “I just want my brother. Just... that’s it.”
