Clarke Co reopens elementary schools

Students return in phased-in fashion

Pre-K and first and second graders in elementary schools in Athens are among those scheduled to return to in-classroom instruction this morning: nearly all students in the Clarke County School District have been doing their learning on-line for almost a year now, since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic last March. The Clarke County School District is returning students to classrooms in a phased-in fashion, with more schools set to reopen later this month.

The Hall County Government Center in Gainesville, which had been operating on an appointment-only basis, is set to return to normal operations. With declining coronavirus case counts in Hall County, most county government facilities will function, starting today, with no appointments required.

State health officials say more than two million Georgians have now received their first doses of coronavirus vaccines. More than 33 thousand have been vaccinated in Athens.
