200 COVID cases in Athens, now a third death in Oconee Co

Athens now has 200 confirmed cases of coronavirus and still 13 deaths from COVID 19. The state Department of Public Health has recorded a third coronavirus death in Oconee County, which now has 80 confirmed cases.

The Athens-Clarke County Library says its branches are beginning a phased-in reopening this week. The Library on Baxter Street and other facilities in the library system have been closed since coronavirus began spreading in Athens and northeast Georgia.

There are more than $1 million federal dollars for the Jackson County School District, money coming to Jefferson from the fund approved by Congress for coronavirus relief.

Delta is slowly returning to the skies after massive flight disruptions caused by coronavirus. The Atlanta-based carrier says beginning next month, it will be resuming some of the domestic and international destinations it cut as the virus spread.

The operators of a battery manufacturing facility in Jackson County have donated $400,000 to Augusta University, money the school will use to help with the state’s response to the coronavirus pandemic: the grant comes from SK Innovation in Commerce.

The Atlanta Botanical Garden has reopened for members only. The garden in midtown Atlanta will open to the general public this coming weekend. It’s been closed because of COVID 19.

Georgia pump prices, which had been in a free fall since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, are again on the rise: Triple-A South in Atlanta says the statewide average for a gallon of self-serve regular is now $1.66, up from $1.64 this time a week ago. 

The Georgia Department of Public Health says the number of coronavirus cases in Georgia now tops 38,000, with 1,649 coronavirus deaths around the state.
