ACCPD ID’s wrong-way driver killed in crash on Loop

Athens-Clarke County Police have released the name of the Oconee County woman killed in the Wednesday morning crash that closed the Outer Looper at Macon Highway for more than three hours. Lizzie Rouhlac was 81 years old, from Watkinsville. Police say she was driving the wrong way on the Loop when her car collided head-on with a vehicle driven by a 60 year-old man from Bogart. She was killed. He was taken to an Athens hospital with what police described as non life-threatening injuries.

On March 1, 2023, at approximately 5:27AM, the Athens-Clarke County Police Department responded to a two-vehicle crash on GA Outer Loop 10 near Timothy Road. Initial investigation indicates that a 2013 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by Lizzie Rouhlac, 81, of Watkinsville, GA, entered GA Outer Loop 10 from South Milledge Avenue, traveling the wrong direction. Just before the entrance ramp from Timothy Road, the Jetta collided head-on with a 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLC being driven by a 60-year-old male of Bogart, GA. Rouhlac died at the scene as a result of injuries sustained in the crash. The driver of the Mercedes-Benz was transported by EMS to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
