ATLANTA — A local online safety advocate is warning parents that children still face serious online threats following Meta’s $17 billion settlement over allegations that its platforms are harmful and addictive to young users.
Titania Jordan with monitoring company Bark Technologies says the settlement means positive changes are coming, but she points to platforms including Snapchat and Roblox as other major concerns.
“Those are the companies we need to be looking at, suing, holding accountable, releasing internal records and discovery,” Jordan said.
Jordan said parents should continue putting pressure on companies to better protect young users.
“You have the wind in your sails right now. The world is waking up to see what is really happening to kids online and how it is really harming them,” Jordan said.
Jordan also says parents should keep a close eye on their children’s online behaviors as they continue pushing companies to improve protections for young users.
