Area briefs: Madison Co plans for Fair, Jackson Co preps for elections

The Board of Trustees for the University of Georgia’s Real Estate Foundation convenes an on-line session at 1 o’clock this afternoon.

There is an afternoon meeting of the Athens-Clarke County Historic Preservation Commission, a 5:30 session at the Government Building on Dougherty Street.

With social distancing constraints in place, organizers are finalizing plans for next week’s Madison County Fair: it starts next Tuesday and runs through the following Saturday at the Fairgrounds in Comer. It will be the 72nd annual Madison County Agricultural Fair.

They are still debating the plan to create a police department for the city of Hoschton: Mayor Shannon Sell says Hoschton homeowners should be prepared for higher property tax bills to pay for new police protection.

We are now 48 days away from the November 3 election day: the Jackson County Elections Board has signed off on plans for drop boxes that can used by Jackson County voters to submit their absentee ballots.
