Athens-Clarke County Republican Party Chairman Gordon Rhoden sends a note to local Republicans on the day after elections that saw Athens area Democrats and progressives score big gains, claiming the Athens mayor’s office, along with seats on the Athens-Clarke County Commission and the Clarke County Board of Education. Rhoden says Democrats were aided by Republicans who didn’t vote.

A special thank you to every Republican who made the effort to vote in this critical election and a heart felt thank you to every volunteer who made calls, canvassed neighborhoods, spoke to neighbors, friends, and family, and made a special effort to impact this election in a positive way. We did not succeed in getting out the vote. Every voter we reach is one more valiant force for positive change in Athens-Clarke County, the State of Georgia, and the United States of America. We cannot continue to be silent at the ballot box.
Run-off elections July 24 and a General Election November 6
are future opportunities to alert Clarke County Republicans to the critical nature of what is happening around us. One person said, "Athens is a Blue dot in a Red State". It is our duty to change that narrative.
The number of Republican voters who stayed home from this election would have made a difference. It is not that we are not viable in this county, it is that we are not active. Me must not choose to be silent. We do so at our own peril.
