Athens Tech makes plans for return to campus

Athens Technical College says its faculty and staff are beginning a slow and phased-in return to a campus that had been closed because of coronavirus: Athens Tech instructors and staffers are now working two days per week in their offices, and putting in the other three days remotely. The school says limited labs are occurring with students on campus in a face-to-face setting, but in very limited numbers with many safeguards in place. Athens Tech begins summer semester classes next week.

From Athens Tech President Andrea Daniel…

Dear Athens Technical College Students,

As President of Athens Technical College I am very proud of the students of Athens Technical College. You have handled this past term with resolve, perseverance, and grace.

As we move forward to Summer term which begins May 26th, Athens Technical College will offer courses for all programs in an on-line format. However, the majority of lab courses will be offered face-to-face on campus in smaller, limited numbers. We will be providing more sections of these lab courses to allow students to complete the hands on lab courses in the smaller numbers.

Regarding Fall term we are anticipating a return to face to face instruction for courses, but will also have on-line courses for students who prefer the online platform.

Also, please note that I am pleased to share that students may be eligible for some federal monetary assistance. Recently, the federal government passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which includes direct monetary grants to qualified college students to help offset financial challenges caused by the disruption in campus operations in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic. Students who attended Spring and also attend Summer may be eligible for this monetary assistance and more information will be sent out soon regarding your eligibility and requirements.

The ATC hotline number (706) 552-0918 continues to be available for you to call and speak with a College representative.

My continued thanks go out to the entire Athens Technical College student body for your support of our great College.

Respectfully,

Dr. Daniel
President
