The Madison County Sheriff's Office says a body found in a wooded area near Jot Em Down Road has been identified as that of William Avera.

As Sheriff and on behalf of the Madison County Sheriff's Office, we would like to extend our heartfelt sympathy to Mr. Avera's family and friends during this difficult time. On 01/08/2019 around 5:30pm, William Kristopher Avera was found deceased in a wooded area off of Jot em Down Road, near Bishop Carey Road. The cause of death is unknown at this time, but no foul play is suspected. The body has been sent to the State Crime Lab for an autopsy. The results of the autopsy could take several weeks to several months.
I would like to thank the GBI, Georgia State Patrol, Elbert Co. Sheriff's Office, Madison Co. EMS, Madison Co. Coroner's Office, Madison Co.
