Campus construction advisory: sidewalk closing

Impacting East Campus Road

The University of Georgia says work on its new STEM building and its adjoining parking deck will make for the removal of a portion of the sidewalk on East Campus Road. Starting today and continuing through the end of the month, the sidewalk at Cedar Street will be rerouted onto a new sidewalk behind UGA’s Computer Services and its Natural History Museum.

From UGA…

Please be advised that Holder Construction will soon remove a portion of the sidewalk on East Campus Road to construct the new drive for the STEM Parking Deck and I-STEM Building 1 (see attached map). Work is scheduled for September 22-24 and 27-29.

The District Energy Plant will be accessible from Cedar Street. Access to the parking lot on the northeastern corner of Computing Services and the Natural History Museum will be provided during construction.

During this time, the sidewalk between Cedar Street and East Campus Road will be rerouted via a new sidewalk behind Computing Services and the Natural History Museum. The southbound traffic lane on East Campus Road at the Cedar Street intersection will be shifted, and the northbound left turn lane on East Campus Road will be closed. The lane shift/closure will be in place intermittently throughout the specified six days. Lanes will remain open as much as possible during this time. Signs will be posted to direct pedestrian and vehicular traffic, and traffic control personnel will direct traffic between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m., as needed.
