Today is a deadline day in Athens: this is the last day for candidates to apply to fill two dozen seats on seven local boards, authorities, and commissions. City Hall says there are openings on the Airport Authority, the Hearings Board, the Historic Preservation and Humans Relations commissions, the Classic Center Authority, the Planning Commission, and the Joint Development Authority for Athens-Clarke County and the City of Winterville. The Athens-Clarke County Unified Government (ACCGov) is seeking qualified candidates to fill the following terms on important policy-making boards:
- Two positions on the Classic Center Authority for a term of four years.*
- Three positions on the Planning Commission. Two positions are for a five-year term and one position is for a partial term expiring June 30, 2025.*
* Incumbents are eligible for reappointment and may reapply.
*PLEASE NOTE: The Mayor and Commission is tentatively scheduled to interview applicants for the Classic Center Authority and the Planning Commission beginning at 5:00 PM on Tuesday, April 23. This will be the ONLY date for interviews. After the deadline for receipt of applications, if you are selected for an interview you will receive an email notification of your interview time. If you will be out of town or otherwise unavailable on this date, let us know at the time you submit your application.

Applicants must be Athens-Clarke County residents. The deadline for receiving applications is Friday, April 5. A separate application must be completed for each position. More detailed information about each board, authority, or commission is available online at www.accgov.com/boards.
Appointments are tentatively scheduled to be made at the Mayor and Commission meeting on Tuesday, May 7. You will receive a letter from Mayor Girtz following the date of this meeting. Applications can be filled out online or obtained from the Clerk of Commission’s office in Room 204 of City Hall, 301 College Avenue.
