Last week was a busy one for Hall County Sheriff’s Office investigators and agents with the Homeland Security Investigations Task Force.

The team made two separate arrests - one on Thursday and the other on Friday - and took a total of 40 lbs. of marijuana off the street in the process.

In the first case, Khamsouk Nifong, 34, was arrested at his home on Riverbend Circle in Gainesville after agents found 24 lbs. of marijuana, a quantity of MDMA pills, two vials of suspected steroids, two pistols, one rifle, $26,000 worth of jewelry and $3,200 in cash. More arrests are expected in Thursday’s case.

Then on Friday, Jose Mendoza-Gutierrez, 32, of Norcross was charged with marijuana trafficking when he picked up a 16-lb. package of marijuana at a residence on Dawsonville Highway. Agents believe the pot was to be distributed in Gainesville.

Both men remain in the Hall County Jail with no bond.
