ATLANTA — The fertility rate in the United States has reached a record low, according to new data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta.
The latest figures show that 53 births occurred for every 1,000 women in the U.S. last year, down from 54 births per 1,000 women the previous year.
The CDC also found that birth rates are declining among younger women.
In Georgia, the fertility rate stands at 54.7 births per 1,000 women, placing the state near the national median.
The decline comes despite efforts by the Trump administration to reverse the trend.
Last year, President Donald Trump was reportedly considering a proposal to offer $5,000 “baby bonuses” to new mothers in the United States.
