Funerals set for drowning, crash victims

The funeral for Tyshon Dye (pictured above) is now scheduled for 2 o'clock Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Elberton: the 25 year-old former Clemson University football player drowned last weekend while swimming with his family at Russell State Park in Elbert County.

There will be a joint service this afternoon in Gainesville, 4 o'clock at the St. John Paul Catholic Mission for the four of the people killed in last week's multi-vehicle pileup on I-85 in Franklin County: three were from Gainesville and the fourth was from Norcross; they were in a van that was hit by an SUV on the Interstate near Carnesville. A family from Paulding County was in the SUV; three of them were killed.

There was a vigil last night in Gainesville for murdered Hall County Sheriff's deputy Nicolas Dixon, who was shot and killed late Sunday night. His funeral is set for tomorrow. The 28 year-old Dixon was gunned down while chasing four teenaged suspects, all of whom have been arrested and are now facing felony murder charges.
