Georgia is one of the 10 most expensive states in the country to own a car, according to a new Consumer Affairs study.
Georgia ranks seventh nationwide, with the average driver spending about $4,160 a year on insurance, repairs and gas.
Auto insurance accounts for about $1,746 of that annual cost, giving Georgia the fourth-highest average insurance premiums in the country. The state also ranks fourth for repair costs.
The study says Atlanta’s stop-and-go traffic may contribute to vehicle wear and tear.
Delaware ranks as the most expensive state for car ownership, with drivers spending about $5,492 a year. Six of the 10 most expensive states are in the South.
